Asterisk Lichen (Arthonia radiata)

Description

Uncommon. Corticolous on rohutu (Lophomyrtus obcordata). Thallus whitish with prominent brown-black prothalline line. Apothecia mostly stellate, flat to subconvex, epruinose. Hymenium colourless, epithecium brown, K+ green. Hypothecium pale brown, K+ green. Paraphysoids with slightly swollen apices. Asci clavate. Ascospores obovoid 3-4-septate, 16-20 x 5-6 microns. Fits this species well except that ascospores are not uniformly 3-septate as implied is the case in New Zealand material by Galloway (2007).
