Please can someone tell me what kind of snake this is? Someone had run over him on the road between 2 marshy areas. Note he's solid dark town the middle of his back, and has a stripe down his ventral side. It is a stripe which I suspect will nail down his identity, but my field guide doesn't show the ventral side of the snakes. Anyway, I've never seen one like this. It was approximately 14-16 inches long.
