Sighted whilst leading a safari on the Liuwa PLains of Western Zambia.
Time 1903 hrs. Almost dark. Country open grassland.
The snake was curled up and repeatedly partially curled and uncurled producing a hissing sound wiht its scales.
I took the photo and initially identified it as an Eastern egg eater. Recently I send the images to Dr D. Broadley of the Natural history museum of Zimbabwe. Bulawayo. who suggested the identity could well be Dasypeltus confusa. The western egg eater.
This apparently being very much at the southern eastern end of its range. One previous sighting was in kalabo. West Zambia.
