Description

This little guy probably too small for a jack rabbit Got multiple images on smartphone, and then the rabbit did not run away, so got some camera images as well to add in.

Only four rabbit-hares in Saskatchewan according to the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan the uncommon Eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus), found in the southeast corner (this observation is central SK), and the more common Nuttall's cottontail (S. nuttalli) of the dry shortgrass Prairies of the southwest (this little guy is central SK). iNaturalist came up with hare as an I.D. The two species of hares in [central] Saskatchewan are the 13 inch-18 inch snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus) and the larger 18-22 inch white-tailed jackrabbit (L. townsendi). The feet and tail do not show in observation to help with the i.d. Snowshoe has shorter ears and no black tip to compare to jackrabbit
