Description

Even though there were a lot of neat bugs out and about; it was a great day for the Skinks. There were tons of these guys running about. The first one in this file was found by my mom. He was just slumped over this exposed root sunning himself sitting as still as could be. He was possibly focused on something. I got several photos of the lizards. It was one of the only herps I would find on this trip. These guys were still young (some of them) because they still had that attractive blue tail that is used as a lure for predators just in case they wind up getting attacked; they can distract the predator and drop a tail rather than lose their lives. These lizards are one of my favorites but I don't get to see them all the time. These guys were rustling in the leaf litter running about all over the place it was very neat. One of my favorite memories on the trip I should say was watching these guys. I did see one out by the Hockey area trying to tear up his own refection. No animal (especially males) can stand their reflections.
