This Polistes wasp caught my eye as it nectared on Asclepias verticillata in a sand prairie and restoration project area. I didn't see why it seemed different until I looked at the photos on my computer - then I noticed the quite large parasites peeking out from under the wasp's abdominal terga. If I'm correct that the wasp is P. fuscatus (the most common species in my area) that would make these parasites Xenos peckii. Unfortunate for the wasp, but my first encounter with Order Strepsiptera.
