Birds working in unison create a mesmerizing sight — what are they?

DEAR JOAN: I was sitting under a tree at my work and a flock of birds were going tree to tree, together.
I have never seen these birds before. They looked like large hummingbirds and were similar in flight to them. I would like to know what kind of bird they were.
