May 27 Nature Neighbor - Butterfly

Butterflies are a sure sign of summer, after they've gone through many stages to emerge as fluttering creatures. As you walk around your yard or neighborhood, see if you can take a photo of them resting on flowers or fluttering overhead.

@merav, @debkccb, one of the things I've really come to appreciate about this project is that it encourages us to explore the same area around our neighborhood day in and day out, week by week, and month by month. It is a study in how things change over time and also how things stay the same. I'm really enjoying seeing all the colorful and fuzzy caterpillars that weren't around just a few weeks ago. Even within the same species, there's so much variation in shapes, colors, patterns, and favorite plants. I'm also really delighted to learn there are so many different kinds of lady beetles. For most of my life, I thought there was only one species. During these uncertain and troubling times, Nature is so soothing.

@truthseqr So glad you're enjoying this project. I love it too. I just wish I could take better photos using my phone. Alas, all I can do is my best. I'm sad to see the flowers in the parks disappearing, and the yellowing of the hills, but yes, these are the changes that I observe by slowing down and taking a closer look at what is around me.
