Thanks, Wendy! I'll be at the BCP event on Friday.

I don't have any meetups to share, but the ones you posted look very interesting! Would be great if we could get more mothing/nocturnal insect events going for the CNC! Creatures of the night...

@jcochran706 If the weather is right, I will be mothing at Inks Lake State Park on Friday night! My current mothing set up requires an electric hook up (I don't have a portable battery pack). I am free Saturday and Sunday night for mothing if theres a good place you can recommend that has electricity!

@wendelia I think I'll join you guys at Inks Lake in the evening for mothing! I'll bring my battery-powered rig. Are you going to moth at Bastrop State Park on Sunday? I'd really like to see what's there in that different habitat. The park should have power somewhere, right? And I could bring my battery-powered setup.

@jcochran706 wonderful!!!! Shoot me a text or call me at 512-656-1222 to make sure its still going on. I have not yet planned out mothing for Bastrop State Park on Sunday, but it would be a GREAT idea to! I don't have a campsite or cabin reserved there, so we would have to use your battery-powered setup. Also, heads up, I am a newbie to moths so I am heavily dependent on iNaturalist for ID thus far! Yeah it would be interesting to see what moths are present in those two very different ecological areas!

I'll be at Holly Shores at 8am on Saturday morning and then I will be running the mothing event at Roy G. Guerrero on Saturday night. Happy Hunting to all of you!

All.... ARGH! .... The typo for the date at Red Bluff was totally my fault! I am so sorry. I apparently got the date right on other outlets, but typed the wrong date here. What a colossal failure on my part. Apologies all around. Thank you @aprilsee for pointing this out!

Y'all are awesome and I hope you have gotten to get some good observations in this weekend!

@franpfer, you were certainly providing confirmations in near real time! Thanks to all who are confirming observations!

All, for future reference... how much battery power is needed for mothing? In the future, the Austin preserves system has a generator if you want to do mothing events in preserves and I, personally, have a 300 watt battery power supply.

Posted by jdavisz about 1 year ago

@jdavisz Regarding battery power for mothing, it depends on the time you'll be firing the USB-type light. I use the battery below and it will last about eight or nine hours, which is plenty for almost all events. The battery is very portable.

@cmeckerman Curtis can comment on the use of a generator, as he employs one to power his mercury-vapor light, which needs "real" electricity.
