END OF DAY 4: MOUNTAINS VS PRAIRIES CHALLENGE

As the last day of the Northern Rocky Mountain Biodiversity Challenges and the Prairie BiodiverCity Challenges wrap up, here are the rules again:
1) Observations must be made between 12:01 AM Thursday June 9, and midnight Sunday June 12, in the challenge’s time zone.
2) All observations made to iNaturalist within the boundary and time frame are automatically tabulated in the results for each region, not including captive or cultivated organisms. Casual observations (those of captive or cultivated organisms, and/or those without supporting photos or sound files) are allowed, but if they account for more than 5% of your observations, then your results will be recalculated to exclude ALL of your casual observations, for the purposes of the competition.

Reporting Dates: Observations must be uploaded to iNaturalist by midnight June 19.
Preliminary Results: Gathered after midnight June 19.

Final Results: Tabulated as of midnight July 31. (We're allowing another 6 weeks here for people to make identifications; much longer than for the City Nature Challenge).

Oxbow Research Natural Area Hike on Sunday 6/12 at 9A

In conjunction with the Summer Northern Rocky Mountain Biodiversity Challenge (6/9-12), Paul Sieracki will lead a trip on Sunday (6/12) beginning 9A at the Priest Lake Visitor Center (depart at 915A).

Here's his plan:
"It will be a 3 mile slow hike, visiting the Oxbow RNA, moist forest and Lower Priest River Riparian habitat for those who want to scramble down a steep bank. There is an old beaver dam in the Research Natural Area and interesting plants. This would not be just a plant ID trip but all species will be noted if they cooperate."

Bring lunch, mosquito repellent, rain gear and bear spray if you have it.

This is going to be a demonstration project to see if it is possible to create a Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) ecoregional competition. If so, then this will be repeated for the 2022 Fall NRMBC (Thursday September 15 – Sunday September 18), and 2023 City Nature Challenge (Friday April 28 – Monday May 1, 2023).
