National Wetlands Month Bioblitz

May is National Wetlands Month! Wetlands improve our water quality and supply, reduce flooding, and provide critical habitat for plants, fish and wildlife. Not only are we celebrating the importance of wetlands to our local communities, we are also celebrating the rich biodiversity of Brian Booth State Park.

On May 6th, The Wetlands Conservancy and Oregon State Parks are teaming up to kick off a year-long BioBlitz at Brian Booth State Park. Paul Engelmeyer, of The Wetland Conservancy, will lead a group through Beaver Creek Marsh and Ona Beach complex while Ranger Chris Maitlen will take a group to the upland forests and meadows of Beaver Creek. This initial event will focus mostly on the wetlands surrounding Brain Booth State Park, but participants are encouraged to start cataloging species found anywhere within the project region.

This event is free and open to the public, with participants meeting at 10am at the Brain Booth State Park visitor center near Ona Beach. You are encouraged to bring water and snacks, as well as rain gear and hiking shoes.

See you there!
