We won! San Francisco Bay Area won the City Nature Challenge!

We won the iNaturalist competition between the Bay Area and 69 other cities worldwide!
The Bay Area had the highest number of observations, species, and people participating - so thanks again for participating!
You can find more info about the Bay Area results here - https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2018-san-francisco-bay-area?tab=observations
You can find the global results here - http://citynaturechallenge.org/leaderboard/
You can still upload observation to our BioBlitz project, if you didn't have time to do it so far.

BioBlitz results!

Thanks everyone for participating at our second Coyote Meadows BioBlitz. 54 people shared their observations - that's amazing!
We found high diversity of organisms - many weeds and native species contributed to a high species count. We documented non-native species such as milk thistle and Italian thistle, poison hemlock, and the seven-spotted ladybeetle. We also saw many native plants, such as coast live oak, poison oak, and CA manroot. Some of the arthropods that were active in that cold morning were the small honey ant and California ladybeetle, and many milk snails and western tussock moth caterpillars.
Some native flowers were planted as part of the efforts to restore the area - scorpionweed, gilia, and purple Chinese houses.

Some results from our event

This BioBlitz event was part of the City Nature Challenge San Francisco Bay Area . Our event was hosted at Coyote Meadows, a park-like area between Kelley Park and Olinder Park.

Over the course of two-hours, 81 people helped to volunteer their time to record what they saw. Families enjoyed the event, and others just strolled through the space. Thanks to everyone for their interest in learning more about nature. We've posted photos on our Facebook page @CoyoteCreekSJ, and would like to share your photos too by having you tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

For more events, see the Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful website for more fun activities, including creek cleanups.
