California Biodiversity Week

Hello,

Inaturalist users in California can participate in Biodiversity Week blitz which runs from Sep 3 to Sep 11. If you make observations at the Famosa Slough, or anywhere in the San Diego River watershed, join this project which is competing with other parks and regions to get the most observations.

We're still picking up new species at the Famosa Slough, and seeing patterns in repeat observations. Have you noticed any bumblebees at the slough? Recently 3 nests were found in the park, all Bombus vosknesenskii (yellow-faced bumble bees). There's still lots of pollinator activity, check the Menzie's Goldenbush which is coming into full bloom this month.

Happy observing and reporting!

Over 550 species!

We've had some great additions lately to the Famosa Slough Biodiversity Project. Keep them coming! There's an upcoming opportunity to make observations at the slough and contribute to a state-wide bioblitz, on September 4-12, 2021 as part of California Biodiversity Day.

Close to 500 species!

As of today the Famosa Slough Biodiversity project has 496 species! Looks like we'll cross the line to 500 very soon. If you visit the slough, please follow city and county guidelines for COVID-19. We'd love to see your observations. And you can contribute to collecting data on the slough while also contributing to other ongoing projects, if you come during April 2021 and you join the Border Bioblitz project, your observations will help both projects! https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/border-bioblitz-2021
Also if you're going to take part in the City Nature Challenge April 30 to May 3rd, consider visiting the slough to make observations. https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2021-san-diego-county

Stay safe and thank you for collecting data about the plants and animals that make the Famosa Slough such a special place.
