This species is restricted to a single locality "Moray Estate, Rajamally, near Mousakelle, alt. 1,370m asl" in the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary of the Adam's Peak area in Sri Lanka. It had previously been collected in the late 1890s at the town Nuwara Eliya (1,710m asl), but is now considered to be extinct at this location (K. Manamendra-Arachchi pers. comm.).
This is a rare species, now known only from the Moray Estate. There is no information on its current population status.
It is associated with hill streams in tropical moist forest. Adults can be found on mossy wet rocks within streams, and in riparian leaf-litter. Breeding and larval development take place in streams.
The extremely restricted distribution of this species makes it very susceptible to water pollution from adjacent tea plantations and the possible negative impacts of tourism within the area.
The species is present in the 224-km² Peak Wilderness Sanctuary. Additional survey work is needed to determine the population status of the species.
Listed as Critically Endangered because its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 km2 and its Area Of Occupancy is less than 10km2, all individuals are in a single location, and there is a presumed continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat from aquatic pollution.
