August Already?

Hi Everyone,

Wow! We are in August already and rapidly closing in on September. I hope you have been enjoying surveying for rabbits and chipmunks! I know I have enjoyed getting your submissions and seeing your photos.

I would like to keep things going through the fall, but if you are unable to commit to the time, I understand. But even if you can only walk the route once a month, that would still be a huge contribution.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions.

Thank you all again,

Lindsay

Hoppy July

Hello Everyone,

I was just checking in to see how the rabbit and chipmunk routes were going? Has everyone had the chance to get out? I've been on a few of the routes when I am heading out for bat work and have seen some rabbits and chippies myself :)

Anecdotally, I would say we are seeing more rabbits this year, but of course the numbers will tell, which is why I cannot thank you all enough for contributing your time to help us get that baseline.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Take care,

Lindsay

P.S. I love the photos!

Checking in

Hello Citizen Scientists!

We made it through a rather cold and wet weekend, but the next several days look pleasant and much more like spring weather.

I just wanted to check in with everyone and see if there were any questions on the route your were assigned or anything with iNaturalist.

Thank you again,

Lindsay

Welcome!

Thank you once again for volunteering to become a Citizen Scientist! You participation will play a crucial role in monitoring the District's density of cottontail rabbits and eastern chipmunks.

By this time, you should have been sent an email with maps and descriptions of walking routes to make observations during. You should also already be familiar with iNaturalist, have it downloaded to your phone, and ready to record your observations in the field.

If you need to be assigned a route or need further assistance with iNaturalist, please email me at citizen.science@dc.gov.

Thank you again and happy counting!
