Final tally (for now...) but keep on IDing!

Hello all,

Thanks to everyone that participated in the UB BioBlitz in 2020. In the end, we identified 465 species with 1314 observations!

You can continue to submit observations to this project since people have been interested in what others have been seeing. I'll definitely be submitting my observations from CA. In terms of bird diversity, the majority of the migration should have occurred, but there is likely stragglers given the late "bursting of the dam" with the colder weather in early May. Most of the birds will have likely arrived in their breeding grounds in WNY. Iroquois NWR is a great spot for warblers (Hooded, Cerulean and one of the only spots for Prothonotary in WNY), thrushes, woodpeckers and occasional cuckoos. Allegany State Park and Hanging Bog are also great spots for breeding birds. Best learn your birding calls because the summer months are more about birding by ear.

Stay healthy and well!

Halfway there!

Hello all,
We are halfway through our first WNY WIDE UB BIOBLITZ with 620 observations and 264 species with just 13 people!!! Let's shoot for 1000 observations! Encourage your friends to contribute!
The bird diversity will continue to increase the closer we get to May. Hermit Thrushes are currently migrating through the area, and the other thrushes will be following suit during the next few weeks. Our first warblers are being sighted (Yellow-rumped and Pine), and most of the swallow species are back in WNY (though not all be present in large numbers atm).
Keep up the great work, keep observing, keep getting outside... And most importantly, keep 1 Great Blue Heron wingspan from your friends!!
