I am unclear about what happens in a taxonomic swap. Can someone provide a little detail on what a taxonomic swap is? In this instance, the genus and species name did not change, but the number following did change. What is the significance of this number?
Thanks

The issue here was that we had 2 names in the database. Each name has a unique number so that is why the numbers are different (if you go to any taxon page you can see that number in the URL). Obviously we only want one record of each species, so we have to get rid of one by "swapping" it with the other. However, the first one only has one "i" at the end while the second has 2, which is the correct spelling. You had an observation of "V. gouldi" but when I swapped it, it became "V. gouldii". If you don't want your observations to automatically update, you can opt out in your preferences.
