We gathered with around 25 other iNatters for the Big Thicket BioBlitz -- it was the best time ever to explore with fellow naturalists.
Today many of us went to the Turkey Trail and saw some really neat plants.
Many of these ID's are tentative -- I'll have to work a bunch on them later. Lots of new things for me! :)
Sound taken. Temp 68degrees, dew point 56, wind S 12mph
Although it is difficult to hear through all the calls, there are three Spadefoot species calling here with Texas Toads - Couch's, Hurter's and Plains Spadefoot.
In order to make it easier to hear (?), I created a loop of a short section where it "stands out". If you listen to the second recording, you hear an ~4 second loop repeated.
At around 2 seconds and then 3.5 seconds you can most easily hear the Plains Spadefoot.
So 2 sec, 3.5 sec then 6 sec and 7.5 sec, then again at 10 and 11.5 seconds etc.
Don't know if that helps?
Update 2/22: found three more adults in same general area, all with complete tails unlike first specimen. So there are at least four adult southern prairie skinks in the vicinity.
