I thought this guy was a tree stump.
Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better finding a garden slender salamander, I ended up finding these two guys. Like I said with the garden slender salamander observation, these guys overlap ranges with the garden slender salamanders in this particular location.
I think this is a different type of crawfish. It did not have the same markings as a juvenile red swamp or signal.
A lot of them on the campus.

(During hike with friends)
Bird was observed at roughly 10:30 a.m. There was 6% cloud cover, temperatures were in the mid 90s, and slight amount of wind. Both birds were sitting on branch and eating their food. There were lots of oak trees and shrubs.
Observation of species:
-breast and flanks whitish with heavy dark streaking.
eyes were distinct from other woodpeckers
-red crown
I found this bird up in one of the many oak trees in the area. It has the bright red crown along with a black breast of a typical Acorn woodpecker.
Found trying to thermoregulate on a cool morning next to some bricks.
