I found these things before out at Veterans Park in Arlington. I just wanted to add another observation of them. These guys really love to stay at the front of the park. I have traveled in the interior of the park but I have not seen them in the dry open areas of the inclined drop off. These ants pretty much stay in the flat land. These guys are a deep red color and are very neat. These guys are the primary source of food for the Horned Lizard, AKA Horny Toad, AKA Horned Frog. These things guys live in disturbed land and in flat mounds. They can sting like crazy and you don't want to make them upset or provoke them. These ants are one of the largest ants I have seen.
I know I have like four or five of these things but I just love photographing them like I said. I have been seeing quite a few of these in recent years. They are just very pretty butterflies.
