christiaan_viljoen aidancampos Douglas Pest (Subspecies Cylindropuntia imbricata rosea)

Needs to be split into to seperate species...!

C. pallida re-activated.

Comments

There are two very different species saved under the same species name: Cylindropuntia imbricata rosea. Cylindropuntia pallida needs to be set as a separate species. It is very obvoius that Cylindropuntia imbricata rosea and Cylindropuntia pallida are not the same species.

C. pallida was lumped into C. imbricata https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/111644. However, pallida is recognised by POWO https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:73884-2, so not clear why this taxon change was made. @najera_tutor ?

Discussion brought up by @christiaan_viljoen and @pieterwinter from: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_swaps/111644

As @rjq says, @najera_tutor will have to explain this swap.

If @najera_tutor is not prepared to defend the swap, then reinstate it.
It is in POWO, and it appears to still be so in the literature.

Best to do discussion on the SWAP, and return here when resolved. (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_swaps/111644)

Easiest solution seems to be to reactivate C. pallida. That will mean someone will have make the effort to check the observations that were automatically "transferred" to C. imbricata subsp. rosea.

Thanks for reactivating.
Here is a link to re-ID (not sure how to create an identify page link?): https://www.inaturalist.org/identifications?&taxon_id=583189&current=false

@loarie Could we please consider a swap reversal here?

Posted by jeremygilmore 9 months ago

I think it is too late for a swap reversal - there will be subsequent IDs to the "new'name: just do another swap ...
(but only for southern Africa).
And beware the split.

True, maybe what's done is done then. A fair portion of ours have been re-ID'ed now, but the Americans will need to review their own observations. I have idea how badly they were affected.
