Although I am not fond of this change, we're planning to use it in the next edition of our Field Guide to the Grasses of Oregon and Washington. I can't object to iNaturalist using it.

The Australian Plant Name Index is the best source of a response from Australia.

It’s not a plant from Australia.

Commonly I will keep using the nationally indexed plant names anyway, so as long as iNat deals well with synonyms, there's no issue, happens all the time...
In general, the species / complex would be an exciting object for large scale evolutionary or ecological studies, probably being the most widely distributed alpine species. Does anybody know whether the lack in Africa is due to lack of observations, or a real distribution gap?
