Commonly I will keep using the nationally indexed plant names anyway, so as long as iNat deals well with synonyms, there's no issue, happens all the time...
In general, the species / complex would be an exciting object for large scale evolutionary or ecological studies, probably being the most widely distributed alpine species. Does anybody know whether the lack in Africa is due to lack of observations, or a real distribution gap?
