What

Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata)

Description

Note: The comparisons presented by iNaturalist regarding pine trees give very little imformation for identifying the different species ... e.g. number of needles per cluster, length of needles, colour and shape of cones, colour of needles, young growth, bark, etc, ... I would suggest that this needs attention if possible.
In this case, there are 3 needles of up to about 10-15 cm which fits the description of Pinus radiata by Lesley Henderson (2020) 'Invasive Alien Plants of South Africa', a very invasive species that is outcompeting local fynbos and needs to be removed from natural systems and outside of plantation areas which require permits that presumably also require escapees to be removed and destroyed by the permit holder. Old plantations and their escapees high up the mountains are being removed at great cost to society to prevent the degradation of our precious natural habitat.

Description

Category 1b invasive so needs to be removed.
Still battling with location with cell phone, should be automatic, but it was postioned way of the actual location ... have repositioned it and roughly the accuracy of location as about 5 metres.
It is on a path so easy to find ...

Not sure of the origin but probably garden/nursery escapees possibly used in water-wise gardening, or edible tubers.

None as far as I am aware!
