This the Key observation for your Plot/Site. It has all your non-species-specific data from location (e.g., weather, soil type, slope, % bare ground). This way you only have to enter your site data once, even if you've got lots of observations.

Note that there is also the field Monitoring_Key Plot Species (Is this the Key Species Observation for whole plot?) for when there is species level information in a plot when you're measuring lots of individuals. In other words, in a plot where lots of individuals are being measured, one observation can contain all the plot-level measurements (plot size, weather, etc.) and be flagged with "Monitoring_Plot/Site Non-Species Data" and other observations, one per species, can get the species information for the plot and be flagged with Monitoring_Key Plot Species (Is this the Key Species Observation for whole plot?).
