And we're off!

With the launch of the Wild Times Project we are already seeing some badass diversity from across North America and eastern Australia: everything from birds of prey to tree frogs to seals and more! Dom Alianelli leads the charge with over fifty species, but we'll see if he can retain his crown going forward. Spread the word amongst your fellow brosteners and let's see how many species we can get!!

A Rapid Start

Happy Weekend brosteners!!

I planned to record a weekly journal with status updates regarding our project, but so much has happened in the past 24 hours that I couldn't wait until next week! As of now we sit at an impressive 1730 species observed worldwide with well over 5000 observations. @rafatosi took a lead in species count with over 200 species, but new friend of the pod @benarmstrong has shot up to the number one spot with 756 species! That's gonna be hard to beat. Big thanks to Ben for helping us get the iNaturalist bot set up on the Wild Times discord page, be sure to head over there to analyze some of the project's observations and discuss findings with the community! Retep ( @oldfitz46 )has also officially joined our iNaturalist ranks and logged some species, only two show hosts to go... Let's keep the observations coming and continue to grow this community of naturalist brosteners, big things coming soon!

2000 Species!!

Happy Tuesday! The project continues to grow as we've recently hit multiple great milestones: we've reached over fifty brosteners registered to the project and have logged over 2,000 species. The real fun is starting to begin as many brosteners are running out of old finds from their camera rolls and beginning the hunt for new species in their local outdoor spaces. At this rate the only way to log a new species will be to go find the thylacine! (if Forrest isn't the one to do it then it better be one of us). The Discord is alive with members discussing their entries and suggesting species IDs for each other's finds; furthermore, the observations map continues to grow with finds across the US, Australia, and Central America. This is still only just the beginning folks, keep the finds coming!

Come One Come All!

Welcome all new members of the Wild Times Project! Today we were able to spread the word as our beloved hosts dropped a video discussing the project on the Wild Times Youtube channel. We were immediately flooded with new members and all of their observations, almost doubling in membership over the past six hours and adding well over one thousand new species. Holy cow! (has anyone logged a cow yet by the way??) It's so great to see this community taking off and I'm excited to continue to see us grow. Keep logging whatever cool creatures you see and get out in whatever nature you have nearby! I hope that through this project we can inspire folks to see the diversity that they have in their own backyards wherever they live: whether it be a concrete jungle or, well, a real jungle...

Also keep an eye out for some contests that we have coming up in future weeks! This will give brosteners the opportunity to challenge themselves to find particular wildlife and potentially receive some cool prizes. Keep logging your finds and be sure to head over to the discord to discuss all manner of iNaturalist, the Wild Times, and wildlife with the brosteners. Happy observing!!

More Milestones

The Wild Times Project hit some fantastic milestones over the weekend! We officially rest at 200 members (that's a lot of brosteners) and our community has now logged well over 6000 species worldwide! We have numerous observations on every continent other than Antarctica (someone go get us some more penguins!!) and the world map is really starting to fill out. It has been so exciting to see what creatures everyone has to offer in the short time that has passed since the conception of the project, and I think I speak for a lot of brosteners when I say I cannot wait to see what we'll find going forward.

Many of our northern hemisphere members- myself included- will start to see warmer temperatures soon and all sorts of wildlife observing opportunities will present themselves as we approach spring. I'm personally looking forward to finding all sorts of herps throughout the Southeastern US in the next few months to share with y'all, and I anticipate many of you hold similar sentiments regarding many of the species close to you. Let's keep the observations coming and keep sharing all our wildlife finds with our community!

Stay Wild,
Drew
