Painted turtle, a rebel, out walking while all the others were basking.
It is unseasonably hot and steamy despite the falling leaves and developing color of autumnal foliage.
The baby mute swan is on its own, now quite large, a beautiful, beige "ugly duckling".
The keeled scales at mid-body (at right) clinch the ID.

Juvenile painted turtle.
Mature snapping turtle consuming carrion.
Observed individual for about 20 minutes. Periodically, the snapper raised its head above water for a a few seconds and then returned to active feeding.
From my overhead vantage point, I believe I was either not seen or not perceived as a threat?
Observed about half a dozen individuals. Basking, on logs, tussocks and on lily pads. Sharing with bullfrog.
Soothing and peaceful.
Nesting painted turtle. Tried not to interrupt the process during observation. She spent forty five minutes to an hour before taking a rest a short distance from the nest.
Saw this turtle a day earlier in the same spot. Recognizable by stub tail.
