Description
Owl landed on our roof again but flew off to a tree nearby (not 100% sure as it was dark but could still hear it).
Audio recordings (apologies for the noise):
[1] there's a brief "eeuu eeuu" sound before the hooting
[2] extended hooting
Wonder if there were two owls?

Description
Evidently beached itself or died and washed ashore into the salt marsh. Could use help in verifying ID or not.
Note: I have very little experience identifying marine mammals, and initially thought this was a rough-toothed dolphin, based on the apparently smooth transition between the snout and forehead, and what appeared to be whitish belly. Both these marks could easily have been obscured by decay.
I'd like to know what marks were most helpful to people who favored bottlenose dolphin.

This beautiful lichens has appeared colorless (only black and white) on some days. I think color appears in wetter weather. What makes the dark/light bands, which appear in similar patterns on different parts of the lichens, like tree rings common to trees that experience similar seasonal weather events?

I doubt that this is a Monterrey Cypress or a cypress at all. The NPS lists trees in Fort Mason in a pdf, and claims ones like this are Mediterranean Cypresses. Neither one seem correct because the leaves aren't scale-like or even needle-like.
