December's Record of the Month!

How often do you get the chance to see a Brambling in Ohio? Maybe once in a lifetime. That’s why Kent Miller’s observation of this now famous wayward finch is December’s Record of the Month. Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla) are typically found in Eurasia…occasionally skipping over to Alaska and down to the lower 48 for the winter. To find one in Ohio, however, is so rare that there’s only one other record of this species from the state. It’s no wonder that hundreds of birders have traveled to see this handsome little finch that’s chosen the LEAP region for its winter home.
