While land slugs are slimy and eat your vegetables, sea slugs are colorful and awesome. And we have a bunch of them in California. Hooray. This guide currently covers the common nudibranchs, sea hares, sapsucking slugs, and other marine 'Heterobranchia' of our coast, including several non-native species.
If you're looking for a field guide, try "Nudibranchs and Sea Slugs of the Eastern Pacific," Behrens et al., 2022. That's the book that this guide is based upon for common names, etc. I try to keep this guide updated as taxonomic changes occur, so if you see something amiss, please message me.
